- Cloxacillin Sodium (equivalent to 250 mg Cloxacillin)
Suspension (5 ml reconstituted):

1️⃣ What Amciclox Is and What It Is Used For
Amciclox combines two antibiotics:
- Ampicillin: A broad-spectrum penicillin effective against various bacterial infections.
- Cloxacillin: Targets and kills susceptible bacteria.
Indications include:
- Ear, nose, and throat infections
- Bronchitis, pneumonia
- Urinary tract infections
- Gonorrhoea, gynaecological infections
- Septicaemia, peritonitis, endocarditis
- Meningitis, enteric fever, gastrointestinal infections
⚠️ Only use under a doctor’s prescription.
2️⃣ What You Should Know Before Taking Amciclox
❌ Do Not Take If:
- You're allergic to Ampicillin, Cloxacillin, or any ingredients in Amciclox
- You've had skin rash or swelling from antibiotics
- You have infectious mononucleosis, lymphatic leukemia, or are on allopurinol (risk of skin rash)
⚠️ Take Special Care If:
- You’ve had serious reactions to antibiotics
- You have liver, kidney issues, gout, or syphilis
- You're pregnant, breastfeeding, or over 50
- You're on a low sodium diet
- You're undergoing urine glucose tests (may show false positives)
💊 Drug Interactions:
- Avoid with: Aminoglycosides, tetracyclines, erythromycin, polymyxin B
- May interact with: Chloramphenicol, Probenecid, Methotrexate, Warfarin
- May affect absorption of other medicines due to changes in gut flora
🍽️ Food & Drink:
- Take 30 minutes to 1 hour before meals
- Avoid alcohol
🤰 Pregnancy & Breastfeeding:
- Consult your doctor before use
- Trace amounts may pass into breast milk
🚗 Driving & Machinery:
- No known effects, but avoid machinery if drowsy
🧂 Ingredients Note:
- Suspension contains sodium methyl and propyl parabens (Nipagin/Nipasol blend)
- Discuss allergies or sensitivities with your doctor
3️⃣ How to Take Amciclox
Always follow your doctor’s instructions. Take on an empty stomach (30 mins to 1 hour before meals or 2 hours after).
💊 Dosage Guidelines:
Age Group | Dosage |
---|---|
Adults & >10 years | 1–2 capsules every 6 hours |
Children 2–10 years | 5–10 mL suspension every 6 hrs |
Children <2 years | 2.5–5 mL suspension every 6 hrs |
Reconstitution:
To prepare 100 ml suspension, add 85 ml water, invert bottle, and shake well.
🚨 Overdose:
- Symptoms: Rapid onset of side effects, convulsions, CNS toxicity
- Seek immediate medical help
- Treatment: Adrenaline, corticosteroids, antihistamines; supportive care
⏰ Missed Dose:
- Take as soon as remembered unless close to next dose
- Do not double dose
4️⃣ Possible Side Effects
⚠️ Common:
- Diarrhoea, indigestion, nausea, vomiting
- Mild allergic reactions (rash, itching)
🚨 Severe (Rare):
- Swollen face, breathing difficulty
- Blistering rash, skin peeling, fever
- Blisters in mouth, throat, eyes, anus, genitals
🩺 Report Immediately If You Notice:
- Liver issues: nausea, vomiting, jaundice, dark urine
- Severe diarrhoea with cramps
- Kidney problems: painful/bloody urination
- Blood disorders: frequent infections, bleeding, bruising
- Anaemia symptoms: fatigue, breathlessness, yellowing of skin
- Muscle aches, joint pain, fever
- Black “hairy” tongue (harmless, resolves post-treatment)
5️⃣ How to Store Amciclox
- Store in a cool, dry place
- Keep out of reach of children
- Use suspension within the recommended period after reconstitution
