1. What is Anticid Plus and what is it used for?

Anticid Plus contains three different drugs:

  • The first two medications are dried Aluminum hydroxide gel and magnesium hydroxide. They belong to a group of medicines called antacids.
  • The other is called Simethicone which belongs to a group of medicines called anti-foaming agents.
  • Anticid Plus is used in:
  • Relief of indigestion (dyspepsia)
  • Stomach pains
  • Wind (flatulence)
  • Anticid Plus works by reducing the amount of acid in the stomach. Anti-foaming agent from Anticid Plus helps eliminate gas in the stomach.


2. What you need to know before taking Anticid Plus

Never take Anticid Plus if:
• You are allergic (hypersensitive) to dried Aluminum hydroxide gel, magnesium hydroxide, simethicone or any of the other ingredients of Anticid Plus (listed in section 6). Allergic reactions include: a rash, problems with swallowing, the lips, the face, the throat or tongue.
You feel very weak (debility).
• You suffer from a kidney disease/kidney failure
• You have low phosphate levels (called "hypophosphatemia"). This can be identified through blood tests.
Do not take this medicine if any of the above applies to you. If you are unsure, talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Anticid Plus.


Warnings and Precautions:
Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking Anticid Plus if:

  • You follow a diet low in phosphorus.
  • You suffer from porphyria and are on hemodialysis.
Children: In infants, the use of magnesium hydroxide may cause hypermagnesemia, especially in those who have kidney failure or dehydration. 

Other medicines and Anticid Plus

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking or have recently taken any other medicines.
This includes medicines you buy without a prescription, including herbal medicines.
Anticid Plus should not be taken at the same time as other medicines. Indeed, ANTICID PLUS could neutralize the effectiveness of other drugs. An interval of two hours or a little more between other medicines will prevent Anticid Plus from affecting the absorption of other medicines into the blood. Certain medications can be affected by magnesium hydroxide or influence the effectiveness of magnesium hydroxide.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you are taking any medicines, have recently taken or might take any of the medicines listed below, as some medicines may be affected by Anticid Plus or may influence the effectiveness of Anticid Plus. Specifically:

  • Medicines used in the treatment of heart disease, such as quinidine, metoprolol, atenolol and propranolol.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of anemia such as iron salts.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of stomach ulcer and acidity such as ranitidine or cimetidine (H2 antagonists)
  • Drugs used in the treatment of malaria such as chloroquine.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of certain bone disorders such as bisphosphonates.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of certain allergic, inflammatory or abnormal immune reactions such as glucocorticoids.
  • Drugs used in the treatment of tuberculosis such as Ethambutol, isoniazid.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of infections such as fluroquinolones, lincosamides, ketoconazole, cyclins, including tetracyclines, cephalosponns (cefpodoxime & cefdinir)
  • Medicines used in the treatment of mental disorders (psychosis) such as phenothiazine neuroleptics.
  • Medicines used to treat excess potassium in the blood, such as polystyrene sulfonate.
  • Drugs used in the treatment of pain such as diflunisal and indomethacin.
  • Drugs used in dental care such as sodium fluoride.
  • Medicines used in the treatment of hypothyroidism such as levothyroxine.
  • Medicines used to treat joint pain and abnormal chemical reactions in the body, such as penicillamine Medicines used to lower bad cholesterol, such as rosuvastatin.
  • Salicylates including aspirin.


Pregnancy and breastfeeding

Talk to your doctor or pharmacist before taking this medicine it.

  • You are pregnant, might become pregnant, or suspect you might be pregnant.
  • You are breastfeeding or plan to breastfeed.
Important information about some of the ingredients of Anticid Plus
This medicine contains 617 mg of Sorbitol in each 5 ml unit, which is equivalent to 123 mg/ml.

Sorbitol is a source of fructose. If your doctor informs you that you (or your child) have an intolerance to certain sugars or if you have been diagnosed with hereditary fructose intolerance (HFI), a rare genetic condition in which a person cannot break down fructose, talk to your doctor before you or your child take or receive this medicine.
Anticid Plus Suspension contains less than 1 mol sodium (23 mg) per 5 ml dose.

3. How to take Anticid Plus
  • For oral use.
  • Shake well before serving.
  • The usual dose is 5 to 10 ml at least 20 minutes after meals and at bedtime or as recommended by your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Children under 5 should take no more than 5ml up to three times a day.
  • If symptoms persist or worsen, talk to your doctor or pharmacist.
  • Do not exceed the prescribed dose.


If you forget to take a dose

If you forget or miss a dose at the scheduled time, take the next dose at the scheduled time. Do not take 2 doses at the same time to make up for the you missed.


If you take more Anticid Plus than you should

Talk to your doctor or go to the nearest hospital immediately.
Remember to take any medicine you have with you, so the doctor knows what you have taken.

The following effects may occur, diarrhea, stomach pain or you may feel bloated and have cramps in the abdomen (stomach), being sick (vomiting), having indigestion, heartburn, stomach pain, constipation, loss of appetite and a dry mouth. This could be caused by an obstruction or blockage in the intestine (ileus).


4. Possible side effects

Like all medicines, Anticid Plus can cause side effects, although not everybody gets them.
Stop taking Anticid Plus and see a doctor or go to a hospital immediately if there is:

  • Not known (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data).
  • You have a red, lumpy rash, swelling of the eyelids, face, lips, mouth or tongue, itching, difficulty breathing or swallowing. It could be an allergic reaction.

Tell your doctor or pharmacist if any of the following side effects get serious or last longer than a few days. Also let them know if you notice any side effects not listed in this leaflet:

  • Uncommon (may affect up to 1 in 100 people).
  • Constipation.
  • Diarrhea.
  • Very rare (may affect up to 1 in 10,000 people).
  • Hypermagnesemia, including conservations after prolonged administration to patients with renal insufficiency.
  • Not known frequency (frequency cannot be estimated from the available data).
  • Hypophosphatemia, this can occur with higher doses of the product, even at normal doses, especially in patients on a low phosphorus diet.
  • Hyperalbuminemia is an electrolyte disturbance in which there is an abnormally high level of Aluminum in the body.
  • Abdominal pain.
If you get any side effects, talk to your doctor, pharmacist or nurse. This includes any possible side effects not mentioned in this leaflet.


5. How to store Anticid Plus

Keep out of the reach and sight of children.
Do not use ANTICID PLUS suspension after the expiry date which is stated on the carton and the bottle label after "Exp". The expiration date refers to the last day of the month.
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C.

Medicines should not be disposed of in wastewater or household waste. Ask your pharmacist about how to dispose of medicines that are no longer needed. These measures help to protect the environment.


6. Additional information

What Anticid Plus contains:

  • Each 5ml dose of Anticid Plus suspension contains the following active substances, 250 mg of dried Aluminum hydroxide gel, 250 mg of magnesium hydroxide and 50 mg of simethicone.
  • The other ingredients are Sodium Methyl Paraben, Sodium Propyl Paraben, Sodium Saccharin, Sodium CMC, Guar (Drica-P 225), Arrow Gum Super, Citric Acid Monohydr Sorbitol Solution 70%, Glycerin, Bronopol, Erythrosine Colorant, Peppermint Oil M-6509 Flaver, Coolen M-5366 Flavor, purified water.
What is Anticid Plus and contents of the pack

Anticid Plus suspension is a pink homogeneous suspension with a characteristic flavor in a 250ml amber bottle. The bottle is packaged in cardboard with a 15ml measuring cup and an insert. This leaflet was last approved in April 2022.
