PHARMACOLOGICAL PROPERTIES

X'Feron contains the new generation hematini, Iron (III) hydroxide Polymaltose complex which is superior to iron salt such as ferrous sulphate and fumarate.

Iron Polymaltose is a non-ionic polynuclear ferric hydroxide complex which is extremely well tolerated by the body and hence overcomes the adverse side effects associated with traditional ferrous salts therapy.

There is a minimal gastro-intestinal side effect, incidence of constipation, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting.

It does not cause iron overloading but rather causes a significant rise in haemoglobin value.

PHARMACODYNAMICS

X'Feron is a haematinic preparation containing Iron (III) hydroxide Polymaltose complex, Folic acid, Zinc sulphate, Vitamin B6, Vitamin B12.

Iron is an important part of haemoglobin in red blood cells and myoglobin in muscle cells.

It forms a component of body enzymes and proteins.

Iron is useful for immune functions and is an agent for drug detoxification.

Folic acid is essential in the synthesis of nucleoprotein and red blood cell maturation.

Vitamin B12 is required to convert folate coenzymes to the active forms which are needed for important metabolic reactions and essential for normal functioning of cell metabolism especially in the gastrointestinal, Bone marrow and nervous tissues.

Zinc sulphate is an essential compound of proteins, fat and carbohydrate metabolism and is also required for osteoblastic activity and formation of bone marrow.

Zinc is an important constituent of enzymes and its deficiency leads to impaired wound healing and growth retardation.

Vitamin B6 (Pyridoxine) influences hemoglobin formation.

It also plays an important role in chemical reaction as well as formation of hormones.

Ascorbic acid, an important antioxidant promotes iron absorption from Gastro-intestinal Tract and helps in haemoglobin formation.

It is required for maintaining healthy blood vessels, gum and teeth.

Vitamin C contributes to wound healing and fracture repair.
