Actions:
Vitamins are non energy producing organic compounds essential for human metabolism, that must be supplied in small quantities in the diet.
The importance of vitamins as drugs is primarily in the prevention and treatment of deficiency diseases.
Vitamins deficiencies occur due to inadequate intake, increased tissue needs, increased excretion, certain genetic abnormalities and drug-vitamin interactions.
Cyproheptadine Hcl serves as an appetite stimulant.
Pharmacokinetics:
After absorption from the gastrointestinal tract, cyproheptadine hydrochloride undergoes almost complete metabolism.
Metabolites are excreted principally in the urine as conjugates, and also in the faeces.
Caution:
Cyproheptadine hydrochloride is not recommended in debilitated elderly patients.
Adverse effects:
Weight gain may occur with cyproheptadine hydrochloride.
Side effects:
Cyproheptadine Hcl is a sedating antihistamine drug.
The most common side effect is CNS depression, with effects varying from slight drowsiness to deep sleep, and including lassitude, dizziness and incoordination.
Include headache, psychomotor impairment and antimuscarinic effects, such as dry mouth, thickened respiratory-tract secretions, blurred vision, urinary difficulty.
Overdosage:
Overdosage of cyproheptadine Hcl is associated with antimuscarinic, extrapyramidal and CNS effects.
Drug interactions:
Cyproheptadine Hcl may enhance the sedative effects of CNS depressants including alcohol, barbiturates, hypnotics, opioid analgesics, anxiolytic sedatives and antipsychotics.
Cyproheptadine Hcl have an additive antimuscarinic action with other antimuscarinic drugs, such as atropine and some antidepressants.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
This product is contraindicated in pregnancy and lactation, since Cyproheptadine has been found to be fetotoxic in rats and has the potential to be excreted in breast milk.
Dosage and Administration:
Age 12 years and above:
The usual dose is 4 mg (1 tablet) two or three times a day, adjusted as necessary to the size and response of the patient.
The dose is not to exceed 16 mg a day.
Adults:
The total daily dose for adults should not exceed 0.5 mg/kg/day.
The therapeutic range is 4 mg to 20 mg a day with the majority of patients requiring 12 mg to 16 mg a day.
An occasional patient may require as much as 32 mg a day for adequate relief.
It is suggested that dosage be initiated with 4 mg (1 tablet) three times a day and adjusted according to the size and response of the patient.

Warning:
Some individuals may feel drowsy when first taking Heptolif tablets, if this happens they should not drive vehicle or operate machinery or appliances requiring alertness.
Storage:
Store in a cool and dry place, not above 30°C.
Keep out of the reach of children.

3 Years from the date of manufacture.
